At The Altar we
believe that life is complicated enough - church shouldn't be. So, we keep things simple and real. We are intentionally returning to the foundations of church and what religion was
intended to be about.
The first church, their experience, and what caused the church to grow and positively impact their world in the first place, is our model. We're just real people gathering to experience God, connect with each other, and help those who need us.
Rev. Jacob Hedrick
Pastor, The Altar
Jacob began going to church at the age of 13. He was invited by his grandmother to a growing and exciting church named Landmark in Lexington, NC. He instantly felt something different about this church and the spirit that he felt. At the age of 18 Pastor Hedrick was offered several sports scholarships and offers to play at Princeton, Dartmouth, East Carolina, and Harvard. Feeling the greater need to continue working within his local church, Pastor Hedrick bypassed the sports scholarships and was granted a full academic scholarship to a nearby university. He began preaching in 2000 to his local congregation and quickly began speaking at other churches for children’s ministry. In 2007, Rev Hedrick became Assistant to the greatest pastor in the world, Kenneth Marshburn, in Lexington, NC. As time passed the Hedricks were invited to speak to more and more adult congregations and received the call to move to Mooresville, NC in 2011. Pastor Hedrick has a Bachelor’s in Science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and studied Business at The Graduate School of Western Carolina University.
Mrs. Amy Hedrick
Pastor's Wife - The Altar
Amy Hedrick has worked with children and Sunday School since the age of 15 when she was asked to assist in teaching. In 1998, she and her husband became the Children’s Ministry Directors at Landmark in Lexington, NC. Along with her husband, she taught Sunday School, lead outreach efforts, coached Bible Quiz teams, taught home Bible Studies, conducted children’s revivals, and assisted in the ministry at Landmark UPC until moving to Mooresville, NC in 2011. She was named NC Teacher of the Year in NC in 2009. Mrs. Hedrick has studied Spanish and Education at Randolph Community College, UNC-Greensboro, and Catawba College.
Minister of Music
Sis Martha Flores joined the team in late summer of 2018. Soon after being married she found her way back home in North Carolina. Sis. Flores is an avid student of worship music. She studied music at Christian Life College in Stockton, California. Aside from that, she and her husband Louis are prayer warriors and love people.
Ed and Tonya White
Bro Ed White found his way to The Altar in the fall of 2015. Since that time he and his wife have helped in several capacities. Most recently Bro Ed has successfully grown the van ministry in picking up children and adults on Sunday mornings. He would say that everything he does is organized by his wife. Tonya does a little bit of everything around the church. Ed studied at Kent Christian College and West Virginia University. Bro and Sis White are prayer warriors and have a strong burden to help people. They are avid Mountaineer fans (but we don't hold that against them).
